OVERVIEW OF CRETE

Crete is a unique place on earth renowned for its rare beauty and virgin nature. The history of the island is full of myths and legends. One can easily imagine how Ancient Gods created this Land by scattering islands around the Mediterranean Sea. Crete came out as being the largest and most significant creations of all.
According to the Greek mythology, the island is the birthplace of Zeus. Undoubtedly, the original beauty of Crete has captured the heart of the young God. He spent the honeymoon with his beloved Europa on this island, high above the boundless sea in the Dikti Mountains.

Up until now, Crete has not lost its primeval appeal. The sea is crystal-clear and deep blue, just as it was in the ancient times. The water is so clear and clean, that you can see the bottom of the sea even in those places where the depth reaches more than 40 meters.

Crete is ideal for travelers who are fond of gentle and mild climate. The temperatures are moderate, rarely reaching more than 30ºC in summer time. The season starts in late April and ends in Mid-November. The sun loves this place, shining here over 340 days a year. Even in short winters temperatures stay around 13º-18ºC.

The beautiful nature of the island is regulated and protected by the laws. The absence of factories and those industries that tend to pollute the environment is of great benefit to the surroundings. All of the beaches are marked with blue flags, been awarded only if the sand and the sea is impeccably clean. The air of Crete is also magnificent. The breeze blends with the scent of herbs that grow on the slopes. Breathing this mixture is not only pleasant, but also healthy. No wonder Hippocrates, known as “the father of medicine”, recommended coming to live on the island for those who suffer and for those in need of full recovery from any illness.

The magic of Crete will never fade away. It will only enhance you and give you more inspirations and desires to come back more and more to this Paradise once inhabited by Gods.

Elounda is a well know holiday resort that has much to offer. Relax with a drink at one of the many kafeneons, wander around the colorful shops offering goods from food to hand made shoes, enjoy a leisurely healthy meal of Cretan food and local wine at one of the many tavernas, fresh caught fish is nearly always available. Swim in the clear blue sea or take a walk around the beautiful harbour.

Ierapetra is a modern town by the Libyan sea, on the Southern coast of Crete. it is situated  35 kilometers south of Aghios Nicolaos, and it is the most southerly town of Europe. It offers good beaches, shopping, tavernas and bars
